Incorrect Welsh
SIR – I am shocked and saddened to hear about the innocent horse “Hope” that was attacked in Pembrokeshire and anti-English graffiti sprayed on the wall.
However, I would like to point out that the slogan written in Welsh does NOT appear to be written by a Welsh speaker. When I first saw “Cai Maes Sais” I thought it was gibberish. So I did a bit of digging & came across the online translator – InterTran. If one types “Get out Englishman” and seeks to translate it into Welsh – the result you get is “Ca i Maes Sais” which is a far cry from what a Welsh speaker would write which is ‘Cer mas Sais’. Therefore it would appear that a notoriously inaccurate online translator was used. I hope the police catch the perpetrator swiftly and I would like to know where the media obtained their erroneous translation for Cai Maes Sais?
